Where are peope dropping the the newly formatted mack kernel in their HD? I just dragged it to my HD icon in side pane of the finder window. I may try again this weekend using the kext helper b7. In any case, I suspect (without ground I'll admit) that my mini didn't play nice with the kext utility. I actually can't remember which wifi card I picked I know it was the less costly of the two at the dell factory online store. Right now, I am testing upgrading to 10.6.8 directly from 10.6.3 (installed from retail OSX Install DVD/USB) So a clean install for your Dell is a good idea. My 10.6.8 is running great, no slow down. My WiFi is working from day one, didn't have to do anything to it either. From there, you can fix the darwin kernel. Hold the shift key will let you boot into Chameleon and type "recovery=yes". Alas, going to wipe and reinstall snow kitty. Reverted to 10.6.7 from time machine but she's still running way slow. But the worst is just how slooooooow my mini is running. The first time, I selected Sleep Enabler, which causes kernel panic after update to 10.6.7. I installed 10.6.8 using Prasys's guide (see post 22 from pcmaniac) The update package can be downloaded from the above link.
